Fairmont Winnipeg's Rooftop Officially Open for Buzziness

This month, Fairmont Winnipeg installed two beehives on the roof of the hotel, joining 20 sister properties in cities such as Vancouver, Toronto and Montreal with their very own rooftop honey program.
The hotel joins several other downtown Winnipeg businesses but is the first hotel in the city with rooftop beehives.
“We’re excited to welcome these very important new guests to our hotel,” said Drew Fisher, General Manager, Fairmont Winnipeg.
“Without bees we certainly wouldn’t be eating the fruit and vegetables we currently enjoy and so we’re proud to have the opportunity to add to the downtown bee population,” adds Mr. Fisher.
The harvested honey will be used by the culinary team in the VG Restaurant and Lounge and enjoyed by hotel guests.
Fairmont Winnipeg has partnered with Beeproject Apiaries, a local sustainable beekeeping company, to place the two hives on the roof of the hotel and provide ongoing hive maintenance. 
“We chose Beeproject Apiaries because of their sustainable beekeeping methods. They use organic techniques of hive management wherever possible which is very important to us,” said Mr. Fisher.
In 2015, Fairmont Winnipeg launched a bee hotel on the hotel’s rooftop, providing a safe habitat for solitary bees to ‘check-in’ and to help to sustain the next generation of urban pollinators. It was one of 16 built across the country thanks to the partnership with WILD FOR BEES that includes Fairmont Hotels & Resorts, Burt’s Bees Canada, Pollinator Partnership Canada and Sustainable TO. Through Fairmont Hotels & Resorts Bee Sustainable initiative, part of the luxury hotel brand’s larger Sustainability Partnership program, Fairmont has committed itself to improving the overall health and conservation of bee species globally, and has built more than 20 apiaries and eight pollinator bee hotels at properties around the world.
